The Bay Area has so much free music in the summer. I've listed 6 fun places venues to check out!
1. San Francisco Opera holds an annual simulcast of an opera at AT&T park. It's totally free, you just need to print out the tickets prior to going. This year they are showing Verdi's "La Traviata" which is a family favorite for the Matt and I. If you've never seen an opera here is your chance! Here is the link for tickets!
2. Sunday nights in downtown Los Gatos means free music! This year has a combo of funk, rumba, hawaiian music, jazz influenced gypsy and rock'n roll. For more information click here!
3. This year marks the Stern Grove music festival's 77 season. In San Francisco, near SF state university, there are a series of free concerts in the most gorgeous venue. Check out the San Francisco Symphony, Rufus Wainwright,The Zombies and more! Bring chairs and blankets and go early! Click here for more details.
4. On Thursdays from 6-7:30 Stanford Shopping center in Palo Alto has a summer jazz series. The concerts are located at the plaza near Neiman Marcus. Bring chairs! Here's the line up.
5. Santa Cruz Beach board work holds Free Friday Night bands on the beach. The stage is located on the sand with the boardwalk behind. One of the most fun dates Matt and I had was riding the rides, and then watching Blue Oyster Cult play. This year you can see Macy Gray, Starship, and Eddie Money. Here is more info!
6. Downtown San Jose has lots of free music but one of the most low key and spots is San Pedro Square Market. There is every type of food you could want, and the restaurants are set up like a mall food court. There aren't any big name bands but you can always expect a good time. Here's a list of events!
Also, if you are still craving more free music there are two music in the park concerts for San Jose this year. Symphony Silicon Valley also does a pops concert series. Opera San Jose's resident ensemble, with my friend Chloe Smart, will be performing with Symphony Silicon Valley and also at Santana Row on 7/12 at 6:30. Later in the year, San Francisco Opera does a free live performance at Golden Gate Park.
