I love listening to podcasts on my really long drive home from work these days. This week the highlight was This American Life's recording of their live show at Brooklyn Academy of Music's Opera House. The amazing Lin-Manuel Miranda (composer of "In the Heights") composed and narrated "21 Chump street" a 14 minute musical based on a true story about a narc and high school student. I was taken on a roller coaster of emotions on my commute and had to share this gem. The video above is from the live show. This American Life is split into acts; the first act featured a funny story turned into an opera. I was cheering the guest appearance of Phillip Glass, a composer famous for his minimalist compositions. Glass is also a cousin of This American Life's host Ira Glass. What a family! You can listen to the whole musical and the hilarious opera here.
