The Cat

World, I'd like to introduce to you to Hansel (named after Owen Wilson's character in Zoolander). Matt and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary by adopting this cutie. He is curious, needy, and very obedient. I have never had a cat before and he is way different than I expected. He loves walks, being held like a baby, and watching TV. When Matt has busy weeks at school, I feel like the "The Monk and his Cat" by Samuel Barber. Samuel Barber took monk writings that were found on the side of copied manuscripts and turned them into art songs.

 Pangur, white Pangur,
How happy we are
Alone together, Scholar and cat.
Each has his own work to do daily;
For you it is hunting, for me, study.
Your shining eye watches the wall;
My feeble eye is fixed on a book.
You rejoice when your claws entrap a mouse;
I rejoice when my mind fathoms a problem.
Pleased with his own art
Neither hinders the other;
Thus we live ever
Without tedium and envy.
Pangur, white Pangur,
How happy we are,
Alone together, Scholar and cat.

People have been writing songs about cats long before "Smelly Cat" on Friends or "CATS" the musical.
